Established in 1990 as a not-for-profit research organism.

Legal status: Consortium

Members of the Consortium are:

• Leonardo SpA (99% of the shares)
• Selex SpA (1% of the shares)
• University of L’Aquila (contributes with technical support and leaving free access to its material characterization labs)

Facilities: Total area of about 1000 m2 – Offices; Clean room for the deposition and definition of micronic patterns; labs for Micro-structural characterizations; Electronic tests and assembly; Optical and radiometric tests.

Staff: 10 people, plus a variable number of contract researchers

Lines of Research:

• Materials: Thin film materials and metanaterials; thermo-optical, anti-ESD and functional coatings.
• Micro-devices: Application-designed bolometers and MEMS
• Sensors: Chemical, Biological and Explosives sensors; IR multispectral sensors.

Application fields: Defence and Security; Space; Renewable Energies; Health; Agrifood

Projects: about 30 projects to date, of which 6 running or at the start

IPR: N°2 released patents, plus 2 under evaluation.
